SeaLex Membership Overview
SeaLex Membership is designed to give seafarers ongoing access to maritime legal support — not only when a serious dispute arises, but also for the everyday questions, documents and decisions that are part of working at sea. Members can seek guidance from independent maritime lawyers across the following areas:
Everyday Legal Questions
Not every legal question requires a dispute or formal claim. Members can ask about rights, obligations, procedures and practical legal questions that arise before joining a vessel or while on board. A maritime lawyer can help clarify the situation, explain what may be expected from the relevant parties and identify sensible next steps.
Contracts & Documentation
Not every legal question requires a dispute or formal claim. Members can ask about rights, obligations, procedures and practical legal questions that arise before joining a vessel, while on board, during repatriation or after an assignment. A lawyer can help clarify the situation, explain what may be expected from the relevant parties and identify sensible next steps.
Rights & Entitlements
Physical injuries sustained during work or while on the vessel, unsafe working conditions, lack of safety equipment, accidents caused by negligence, long-term consequences and disability, and entitlement to compensation or damages.
Medical & Repatriation Matters
Get legal guidance when illness or another medical situation affects your ability to work or remain on board. A lawyer can help you understand your options regarding treatment, medical leave, repatriation and related costs, as well as the practical steps to take if there is uncertainty or disagreement about what should happen next.
Injury & Compensation Matters
If an injury or work-related harm occurs, a maritime lawyer can provide an initial legal assessment and explain which rights, benefits or compensation frameworks may be relevant. If the matter requires a formal compensation claim or representation, that additional work can be arranged separately.
Abandonment & Urgent Matters
SeaLex also provides access to legal guidance when a seafarer faces an urgent or serious situation. A lawyer can assess the immediate legal position, identify time-sensitive considerations and explain the next steps that may be available. Where direct intervention, formal correspondence or representation is required, additional lawyer services can be arranged.
Your membership includes access to independent maritime lawyers for consultations, legal guidance and initial assessment of your matter.
When a matter requires a lawyer to take further action on your behalf, those services are provided separately and charged under the lawyer’s own terms. SeaLex Points can be used toward eligible additional legal services.
Examples of additional services include:
Formal Correspondence & Direct Communication
Preparing and sending formal letters and communicating directly with relevant party on the member’s behalf. This is different from membership guidance on how the member may communicate or follow up personally.
Legal Drafting & Document Preparation
Drafting, revising or preparing legal documents where the work goes beyond general membership guidance or an initial review. This may include agreements, declarations, formal statements and other tailored documents required for a specific legal or employment matter.
Claims & Institutional Submissions
Preparing and submitting formal claims, complaints, reports or other documents to companies, insurers, authorities, organisations or institutions where appropriate.
Negotiations & Settlement
Representing the member’s interests in negotiations, communicating with the other party regarding possible resolution and advising on settlement proposals. Drafting or reviewing settlement documentation can also form part of this additional legal work.
Legal Representation
Legal assistance in connection with formal proceedings, regulatory matters or disputes that require support beyond membership guidance. This may include advising on applicable procedures, preparing relevant documents and helping the member understand and organise the next legal steps.
Other Advanced Legal Procedures
Any complex or long-term legal work that goes beyond initial consultation, assessment and general guidance. The lawyer shall explain the proposed scope and professional terms before the member decides whether to proceed.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is SeaLex membership?
SeaLex membership is an annual plan that gives seafarers continuous access to a maritime lawyer for legal guidance and support throughout the year. Members can easily request legal help, receive assistance, and track their cases directly through the platform.
How much does the membership cost?
The annual membership fee is €319.89 and is charged on an annual basis. Membership may be cancelled at any time. Cancellation does not affect access to benefits, which remain active for 12 months from the initial payment date.
What do I get with my membership?
Your membership gives you:
- Access to the Maritime Lawyer – Legal support from the first day, ask questions anytime without extra charge.
- Personal Legal Dashboard – Open new cases, track progress, and securely upload and manage your documents
- SeaLex Membership Points – Earn points through your activity on the platform and use them to reduce the cost of legal services.
- Loyalty Benefits – Exclusive benefits and rewards for long-term members.
What are SeaLex Points and how do they work?
Each member receives SeaLex points equal to the membership fee paid. Points can be used to pay for any additional legal services — for example, drafting a claim, negotiating with a company, or court representation.
Points do not expire and accumulate over time as long as your membership is active.
How can I earn additional SeaLex Points?
You can earn more points by:
- Referring new members — for every 5 new members who join through your referral, you receive 50 extra points
- Anniversary bonuses — extra points are added before each annual renewal
- Engagement rewards — more you complain more reward you get
Are legal services included in the membership?
Membership covers all consultations and continuous legal guidance provided through the SeaLex platform.
Specific legal actions – such as drafting claims, negotiations, or legal representation – are performed by independent maritime lawyers who are not employees of SeaLex and are charged separately under their own professional terms.
SeaLex Membership Points may be used to reduce the cost of these additional services.
How does the free trial work?
New users may advantage of a 7-day free trial with full access to the SeaLex platform.
During the trial, you can:
- Ask legal questions and receive professional legal support;
- Explore your legal dashboard;
- See how points and membership work.
- After 7 days, you can upgrade to a full annual membership to continue receiving legal support.
What happens if I stop or pause my membership?
SeaLex membership is billed annually and remains active for the full 12-month period, even if you decide to cancel midway. You can continue using all membership benefits and legal services until your yearly term expires.
After your annual membership ends, you have 30 days to renew it. If you don’t renew within that period, your account becomes inactive – you’ll lose access to the platform, your SeaLex Points will be permanently deleted, and all other membership benefits will expire.
To keep your points and uninterrupted access to legal support, make sure to renew your membership each year before the 30-day grace period ends.
Is my information confidential?
Absolutely! All data, documents, and communications on the SeaLex platform are encrypted and handled with strict confidentiality, in full compliance with GDPR and applicable professional standards.
