Situations where wages are not paid, provisions and fuel are not supplied, the shipowner disappears or refuses to arrange repatriation, and support in contacting relevant institutions and organisations to get you home and recover what is owed.

When seafarers are questioned, detained, or investigated by local authorities, port state, or other bodies in connection with incidents on board or in port, including guidance before giving statements, understanding your rights, and coordinating with consular services where possible.

Any situation in which you are unsure about your rights as a seafarer, the obligations of the shipowner, manager, or agency, or the potential consequences of signing or refusing to sign documents.

Membership gives you access to a lawyer and free initial consultations, but full legal services carried out by independent lawyers are billed separately. You can use your SeaLex Points to cover part of these costs.

Examples of services that are not included in the membership and are charged individually:

Drafting and sending formal letters, demands, or notifications to the shipowner, manager, crewing agency, or employer on your behalf.

Preparing and submitting reports or complaints to ITF, P&I Club, Port State Control, flag State authorities, or local authorities, depending on the nature of your case.

Preparing and filing formal claims for unpaid wages, compensation, damages, or other entitlements, including reviewing and organising evidence.

Representing you in negotiations with the employer, shipowner, insurer, or their lawyers, as well as in court proceedings, arbitrations, or other formal procedures where allowed.

Conducting negotiations on your behalf, advising you on settlement offers, and drafting or reviewing settlement agreements before you sign anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

SeaLex membership is an annual plan that gives seafarers continuous access to a maritime lawyer for legal guidance and support throughout the year. Members can easily request legal help, receive assistance, and track their cases directly through the platform.

The annual membership fee is $249,99, paid once per year. The membership cannot be cancelled mid-term but includes several benefits that grow over time.

Your membership gives you:

  • Access to the Maritime Lawyer
  • Legal Support from the first day — you can ask questions anytime without extra charge.
  • Access to a Personal Legal Dashboard, where you can open new cases and upload documents.
  • SeaLex Membership Points which you can use to reduce costs of legal services + you can earn them
  • Exclusive Benefits for loyal customers…

Each member receives 250 points (worth $250). Points can be used to pay for any additional legal services — for example, drafting a claim, negotiating with a company, or court representation.
Points do not expire and accumulate over time as long as your membership is active.

You can earn more points by:

  • Referring new members — for every 5 new members who join through your referral, you receive 50 extra points.
  • Anniversary bonuses — extra points are added before each annual renewal.
  • Engagement rewards — more you complain more reward you get.

Membership covers all consultations and continuous legal guidance provided through the SeaLex platform.
Specific legal actions – such as drafting claims, negotiations, or legal representation – are performed by independent maritime lawyers who are not employees of SeaLex and are charged separately under their own professional terms.

SeaLex Membership Points may be used to reduce the cost of these additional services.

New users may advantage of a 7-day free trial with full access to the SeaLex platform.
During the trial, you can:

  • Ask legal questions and receive professional legal support;
    Explore your legal dashboard;
  • See how points and membership work.
  • After 7 days, you can upgrade to a full annual membership to continue receiving legal support.

SeaLex membership is billed annually and remains active for the full 12-month period, even if you decide to cancel midway. You can continue using all membership benefits and legal services until your yearly term expires.

After your annual membership ends, you have 30 days to renew it. If you don’t renew within that period, your account becomes inactive – you’ll lose access to the platform, your SeaLex Points will be permanently deleted, and all other membership benefits will expire.

To keep your points and uninterrupted access to legal support, make sure to renew your membership each year before the 30-day grace period ends.

Absolutely! All data, documents, and communications on the SeaLex platform are encrypted and handled with strict confidentiality, in full compliance with GDPR and applicable professional standards.
